Archives of Isère

D3 architects and CR&ON Architects

The departmental archives project of the Isère (ADI), is composed of 3 layers: a base, a vegetal layer, and the storage volume. These volumes become the raw and mineral expression of the territory of Isère. The building is crossed by an inner street, and thus has two entrances.

Four store blocks embed vertical glazed breaks providing natural light without direct sunlight. These imposing masses answer to the density of the program which they welcome and that of the loads which they resume. They are dressed in a gray ocher concrete skin, marked with a horizontal texture that evokes two dimensions of the project’s imagination: limestone and paper.
